Welcome to the Art of Serendipity
Welcome to The Art of Serendipity.
I’m so happy and grateful you’ve chosen to step into this little corner of my world. This humble, lovingly written newsletter lived quietly in my heart for a long time, and I’m overjoyed to be sharing it with you.
The Art of Serendipity is a kind and gentle space where I write about what makes life feel rich and meaningful: wonder, beauty, purpose, community, and the delightful magic that unfolds when we say yes to life, even as fear softly whispers otherwise. My hope is that this newsletter feels like a loving companion on your own journey: honest, uplifting, and filled with gratitude for the world’s small miracles.
My name is Amira Elgan, and for more than 20 years, I’ve lived a nomadic life with my husband, wandering from place to place and slowly cultivating a life around shared tables, magical gatherings, epicurean pursuits, nourishing food, culture, and meaningful connection. In those early years on the road, we met artisans, winemakers, farmers, chefs, and makers whose work was rooted in place, purpose, and love, and over time, those friendships naturally blossomed into what became the Gastronomad Experience, an organic extension of the way we were already living. At gastronomad.net, you’ll find the heart of that work: intimate, lovingly curated journeys that welcome small groups into vineyards, markets, and home kitchens that only the Gastronomad Experience makes possible through dear friends who open their doors and hearts to us, creating unforgettable moments of beauty, community, and joy.
Our life as gastronomads has given me a unique way of seeing the world. Moving from place to place and living slowly wherever we land has taught me that serendipity is not just luck; it is a way of looking at life, a gentle practice of staying open to what might unfold.
Being a gastronomad is more than a lifestyle; it is a soft, steadfast philosophy of travel and of living, one that invites us to seek the soul of a place rather than its postcard version, to say yes to shared tables and long conversations, and to notice the small, beautiful details most people rush past. It is also an act of trust: trusting the unknown enough to let surprise, connection, and joy find us, again and again, in the most unexpected ways.
The Gastronomad Experience grew from that spirit, secret itineraries, hidden gems, and unplanned magic, while The Art of Serendipity explores the inner journey that makes it possible: the courage to trust life, the mindset of gratitude, and the quiet art of living kindly and gratefully wherever we are, even if we never leave home.
You’ll receive what I call my “love letters,” because they come straight from my nomadic heart, each one filled with stories, reflections, and small, delightful moments of serendipity gathered over two decades of wandering the world as a full‑time gastronomad.
The Art of Serendipity is my way of sharing that this way of living isn’t only for people who cross oceans; it’s for anyone willing to notice the light in their own corner of the world. Through these newsletters, I hope to gently invite you to cultivate serendipity right where you are, to slow down even when life is fast, to pay attention, to say yes a little more often, and to let small moments of beauty, gratitude, and connection soften and transform the way everyday life feels, even if you never travel far from home.
Most weeks, you can expect one main letter, with the occasional extra note when something especially magical unfolds on the road. I promise to write as consistently as I can, though there may be quieter stretches while traveling or hosting; that is simply the rhythm of this life I adore, one that rarely feels like “work,” even when I’m on duty.
Each issue will bring a mix of intimate travel stories, insights, reflections, and love-filled reminders to look for the beauty around you, with the hope of sprinkling moments of joy that encourage, inform, and inspire your own adventures, near or far.
A few practical notes so we stay connected:

With love, joy, adventure, gratitude, and heartfelt wishes for serendipity,
Amira
